The Josh Project receives a helping hand

The Tragic Loss and the Birth of a New Mission

Wanda Butts’ life was forever changed when her 16-year-old son, Josh, lost his life to drowning in 2006. The pain of losing her child was overwhelming, but it also sparked a sense of purpose within Wanda. She realized that many children in her community were not learning how to swim, and this lack of knowledge was putting them at risk of drowning. This realization led Wanda to create The Josh Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching children how to swim.

  • Provide free or low-cost swimming lessons to children who cannot afford them
  • Teach children how to swim safely and effectively
  • Raise awareness about the importance of swimming lessons for children
  • Build a supportive community of parents and caregivers who can help children learn to swim
  • The Impact of The Josh Project

The Josh Project has made a significant impact in the community, providing swimming lessons to hundreds of children over the years. The organization’s programs have helped children develop essential skills, such as swimming, water safety, and confidence in the water.
